BUILT BY COMMUNITY, FOR COMMUNITY

OUR STORY

In 2022, five fems and thems came together with a shared vision: to build a space where LGBTQIA+, GSRM, BIPOC, sex workers, creatives, and neurodivergent individuals could gather, heal, and thrive. They saw a need for something differentâ€"not just another club or bar, but a true community center grounded in safety, radical inclusion, and mutual care.

What started as a dream became The Autonomy Project, a grassroots nonprofit committed to creating spaces where marginalized people aren't just welcome—they're centered. Our founders didn't have corporate backing or big donors. They had passion, determination, and a refusal to accept the status quo.

With the support of community members, volunteers, and allies, they were able to secure and transform a 2,200-square-foot former library in Columbus, Ohio. That space became Wicked Eden—a sanctuary designed to reflect the creativity, resilience, and joy of the communities we serve.

We wouldn't be here without the generosity and vision of the one and only Alexandra Snow, who believed in us enough to make buying this building possible. Her support didn't just give us a spaceâ€"it gave us a foundation to build something that will outlast us all.

Since our founding, we've grown from a handful of events to over 55 annually, touching the lives of more than 1,600 people. We've distributed $36,000 in mutual aid, mobilized 160+ volunteers, and created programming that centers education, advocacy, and liberation.

We remain 100% volunteer-run and community-funded. Every event, workshop, and program is created by people who do this work because they believe in it—not because they're paid to care. We receive $0 in corporate funding, which means we answer to community, not shareholders.

This is our story—but it's also yours. The Autonomy Project exists because of the people who show up, volunteer, donate, and believe in the power of collective liberation. Together, we're building something that didn't exist before: a home for the wild, weird, and wonderful.

Focus on Historically Marginalized Groups

We center those who have been pushed to the margins—LGBTQIA+, sex workers, BIPOC, and neurodivergent communities.

Rejecting Exploitative Systems

We operate outside corporate structures and refuse funding that compromises our values or autonomy.

Cultivating Autonomy and Mutual Care

We believe in collective liberation—no one is free until we're all free.

Holistic Impact

We address the whole person—emotional, physical, creative, and spiritual needs.
